Career Coaching For Young Adults

The past couple of years have been particularly disruptive for young adults. They have had their education and social lives disrupted, and many have lost confidence and feel disheartened about their futures.

Teachers and lecturers are trying to maintain some form of basic teaching and career advice has suffered accordingly.

Most parents try their best to help but they may be struggling with the challenges the pandemic has thrown at them. As a parent myself, I understand that sometimes it takes someone who is not emotionally involved, who has the professional skills and expertise, to provide the help needed, particularly when it comes to areas such as career advice.

I can help young adults:

Become more confident

Many of the young adults I work with have spent months or even years searching for a decent job. Some have lost all motivation after numerous rejections. This results in low confidence and poor self esteem.

Confidence is key if you are going to be able to demonstrate to future employers, both in applications and interviews, that you have the skills and abilities required.

My coaching approach is designed to help young adults regain their confidence. I help them to understand their skills and abilities and how they can tailor these attributes to specific roles. I also help them present themselves more confidently in their applications and interviews, thus helping them stand out in an ever competitive job market.

Become more motivated

Constant rejections inevitably lead to poor motivation and feelings of just wanting to give up. I have had parents ask me to help their adult children who have got to that point, with one young lad who hardly ever left his room.

My coaching approach will help build resilience and the motivation to get back on the path to reach desired goals.

Discover their career path

Some of the young adults I see have no idea of the type of career they want. They go online and apply for any job that looks remotely interesting. Employers can tell! They know who is genuinely interested by the type of applications they receive.

I can help young adults identify their core skills which will then be aligned to job opportunities which best suit them. They can then put together more tailored achievement-based CVs and cover letters which will get them invited for interviews.

Become more confident in interviews

Having carried out numerous interviews in my previous career, I have first had experience of what interviewers are looking for. I have helped many young adults prepare successfully for interviews, giving them lifelong skills, such as being able to communicate clearly and in an engaging manner with future employers. This will be of benefit not just in their current job search but will benefit them throughout their future careers.

If you are a young adult, or the parent of a young adult, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
